Returned Chinese students to exceed 50,000

The number of returned Chinese studying overseas will be up to 50,000 in 2008, officials from China's Ministry of Education said that recently.

Statistics from the Ministry of Education shows that in 2007, 144,000 Chinese went overseas to study, and the number of the returned overseas Chinese was 44,000, twice as that number in 2003.

According to the Ministry of Education, in 2007, the number of Chinese going abroad for study increased by 7.94 per cent, and the number of returned overseas Chinese was up by 4.97 per cent compared to 2006. Experts said that more and more oversea Chinese returned to China in recent years.
